Nokia phones for Airtouch digital are being sold cheaply because they do not perform well. The talk times and standby times are terrible compared to Qualcomm digital phones for Airtouch. That is why Nokia phones are being sold so cheaply, according to ATI sales reps.

Nokia cdma phones have not been selling well; they have had lots of problems. The carriers generally sell phones below their cost in order to get subscribers. Expense to the retail consumer is also affected by the subsidy from the handset manufacturer. Accordingly, it was probably Nokia offering greater subsidies to AirTouch in order to move Nokia phones. Qualcomm does not have to offer as high subsidies because Qcom is capacity constrained and can sell every phone it makes and Qcom has the reputation for the best phones.
