Eric,
I would guess this is exactly the reason Compaq now deals direct with Enterprise clients. VARs are not global. I think it is a weakness in the channel. Enterprise companies are global and more companies are going that way every day.

Eric: Thank you for sharing that posting. If I knew someone at CPQ, I'd sent it to him/her.

I'm interested in knowing how CPQ is doing with its Africa accounts. A few years ago, about 5, CPQ was THE computer of choice in NE and W Africa [I do not know about S Africa]. Part of this had to do with CPQs doing well in hot, dusty climates. Part had to do with their dependability--especially laptops. Int'l development organizations and contractors bought CPQs. Literature (books and articles) on the impact of IT in Africa mentioned "Compaq" in case studies.

People talk about China as a big market. Well, the continent of Africa presents a huge market as well. I'd be curious to find out how market share is divided between the major U.S companies today and which is gaining market shares.
