Compaq says it cuts prices on certain PCs

HOUSTON, March 1 (Reuters) - Compaq Computer Corp., the world's largest personal computer (PC) maker, on Monday said it was trimming prices up to 11 percent on certain computer products.

Among its larger price cuts, Compay said it was trimming prices on select notebook personal computers, its Armada 1750 and Armada 7400 models, up to 11 percent. The company added it was also cutting the cost of certain desktop computers, called Deskpro EP Series, up to 9 percent.

Compaq shares continued their slide, which began last week after the compay warned of weaker-than-expected PC demand and analysts cut the company's first quarter earnings estimates.

Compaq shares dropped 1-15/16 in early morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange to 33-5/16. The stock has a 12-month high of 51-1/4 and a 12-month low of 22-15/16.
