Using "impact" as a verb is the most illiterate (least literate) construction I can think of. As in, "the study indicates that the presence of waterfowl impacts on the environment".

Please forgive me for this as I don't mean to sound frivolous: One of my major-league arguments with my lover is the correct usage of "lie" vs. "lay" in ecrtain situations. I am quite satisfied with what I believe to be the correct constructions, but I welccome input from the thread. I live to learn....
