Personally, I believe neither. Intel demos
97 600 Mhz (Agenda 97)
98 800 Mhz
98 1000 Mhz

Thus by looking backward it looks more like demo +2.5 years. Thus 1 Ghz may be Fall 2001. I bet some friends (last October) even money that volume production by neither INTC or AMD would not occur at 1 Ghz before 1/1/2001. I think I still have a sporting chance.

This is not say I believe that it will not happen eventually, but 1 Ghz will take "a little extra time" if you want it to be twice 500 Mhz in throughput.
