Exactly. Good article. People say "Gee, so you were raped 20 years ago, and *YOU DIDN'T SHOUT IT FROM THE MOUNTAINTOPS*? WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?

As if they had done that. As if they had been raped by a powerful, very public man, and that they had the courage to immediately broadcast it to everyone.

And like Meredith Oakley said, Clinton used the line that he "wanted to protect his family" as the excuse for lying about Lewinsky. Most liberals wholeheartedly embraced that as a bona-fide reason, indeed, most applauded his lying denial (hi Michelle!), saying it was "the right thing to do".

Then people dismiss Broaddrick's story because she waited so long to tell it. Gee, maybe she wanted to "protect her family"? Perhaps she was embarrassed about what had happened? Perhaps her emotions were mixed, since she was having an affair at the time?

Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done. The statute of limitations on rape in Arkansas is 6 years or the 12th grade, whichever comes first (-g-), so there you are.

I think it will be a bit like the O.J. verdict: Everyone knows he did it, but the system let him off.

" Suddenly, I saw her tears and
listened to her
pained voice, and I was overcome by emotions too numerous and too sudden to count.";

Gads; does no one remember Susan Smith crying and weeping about how she got carjacked by a Black man and then we find she killed her own kids! I've just become jaded by these public sob scenes. That isn't proof for me.

On the other hand; I will say that after much discussion with people that are involved more than I am with these kinds of things; rape and women's psychology; Broaddrick's behavior is not clearly unbelievable. It COULD be true. That is where I'm at now. There isn't proof; it is unsettling, what to to about it. I'm still left with the fact that in America a person is innocent until proven guilty. All we have is an allegation and the facts of it are such that IT MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT be true. Neither side of that is resolved. You can't declare Clinton guilty of it, but you are left with doubts about him as well. I wouldn't want my women friends to date him; that is about all I can say is warranted with the current predictament. We just don't know if he did it or not. With only Broaddrick's tears to go on; that isn't enough for me. If there is more proof; I wouldn't be shocked to find Clinton indeed force himself on her. This just shows how much he is damaged by all of this. I'm still not ready to see him have to accept responsibility for something that he might also not have done. There is that other side of it also. I will say that this has effectively tainted him probably till the end of his term. It has been an ugly vicious political fight and both sides have wounded themselves badly by it. Clinton is very much wounded by all of this. It's really ugly politics and if it get's worse than this in the future with Gore; we really have to fear for the country. If Gore is demonized as if he is as bad or worse than Clinton; you can be sure this is more about politics than truth. I can't imagine that every Democrat is evil incarnate; which is what the Republican's are trying to convince us of. That can be done for a while, but after a while; it get's to be too much. It at some point will be seen as a political strategy; not an effort to get at the truth. The other side is horrible also. Imagine if Dole had been investigated like this. I'm sure there are tons of shocking things about Dole we don't know about. I'd like to see 40 million spent on all of Reagan's behavior as an actor in Hollywood. I think we might find all sort of horror with him if you dug and dug. 40 million to look into Bush Jr.; that should yield shocking things.
