>>it usually comes as a 3 Pack to resellers so they must have broken it down. Maybe they have a special sales agreement with Microsoft.<<

This is starting to make sense. I never fully comprehended why NT should cost the usual $250+ that you see it listed for, while 95 and 98 are sub-$100. Now I see the answer is that MS figures that most anyone (probably businesses) who buys NT is installing it on a network and therefore (legally) needs more than one copy. And, like you speculate, they have made provisions with retailers here and there to allow the 3-pack to be broken up for home users who may simply want NT for its reputed stability advantage over 95/98, rather than network building.

>>All manuals are on the CD. It is much cheaper than the full version CD<<

I had wondered about the manuals too.

My breathing is becoming easier.

>>A word of caution, when you go to install Internet Explorer, if asked to overwrite new files after you've installed SP4 answer "No To All".

This will keep all of NT4's files at the current rev. level and reduce the possiblity of Blue Screening<<

This sounds like it could have been much trouble. Thanks for the warning and advice.

I have actually already downloaded SP3 and was not planning on using SP4 -- my impression from what I've read on the threads has been that SP4 is still buggy and SP3 gives you the best overall functionality. Am I mistaken here?

Thanks for the great response!
