Tom, There is both upside and downside to having no banking business. Yes, the analysts can be more honest. However, since compensation can be lower by 2/3 at a non banker, they often don't get or retain top talent. So, what you get is a choice between the top talents who have sold their souls and lesser talents who are still equipped with with soul but may not be as bright.

The bit about access didn't go all the way. Sandy Bernstein competes with Merrill and Morgan Stuckup, so their analysts have the same problem getting access to those firms that Merrill analysts have at Citigroup.

I loved the bit about the Rugrats watch. <g>
