08:40 ET 3Com Corp (COMS) 31 7/16: CS First Boston concerned about promotional and discount activity in the channel during the last few weeks of the qtr. Believes issue partially offset by comments by component vendors that COMS business healthy and improving. Although firm still anticipates earnings of $0.30 to $0.35, it does so on reduced confidence. Based on First Call survey of 26 analysts, COMS expected to turn a profit of $0.36 for the qtr. Stock flat in pre-market.

Dell'Oro Group Releases 4Q98 Report; Router and Remote Access Market
Grew 4% in 4Q98; Hybrid Voice and Data Products from Cisco, Lucent,
and Nortel Drive Growth - BW, 08:10 a.m. Mar 01, 1999 Eastern

PORTOLA VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 1999--Total sales of
Routers and Remote Access devices grew 4% ($80 million), to $2.1 billion in 4Q98,
according to the Dell'Oro Group's 4Q98 report, published last week.

Access Router sales were up $100M Q/Q (23%), as enterprises upgraded their branch
offices to hybrid voice and data Access Routers. In turn, legacy Midrange and Low
End Router sales were down $76M Q/Q (14%).

Access Concentrator sales from Lucent and Nortel were up sharply. Each firm's
platform has double the backplane capacity of many competing products and are
optimized to handle voice and data traffic.
