You're right, it does have a DOS VM embedded in the system, but some DOS software might run into problems if it has to access the drive using low-level DOS commands. If that's the case, then the File Allocation Table can be corrupted (On a FAT32 drive).

Good point though, it'd be nice to know what DOS programs are being run. It would make a decision easier.
