BLACK HAWK MINING INC. is pleased to announce recent drilling results at its El Limon Mine in northwestern Nicaragua, Central America. 200 Metre Strike Extension of Talavera Sur Eight new diamond drill holes along the northeastern strike projection of Talavera Sur have demonstrated a 200 metre extension of the vein confirming previous interpretations that Talavera Sur and Talavera Este Footwall Zone are part of the same gold-bearing structure. Drilling to date traces Talavera Sur over a 350 metre strike length while the Footwall Zone has been followed by underground workings and drilling for 175 metres for a combined length of 525 metres. The following results are for the new holes between sections 11250E and 11450E. Previous drill results for Talavera Sur were released in September and December 1998. A total of 6,950 metres of drilling in 46 holes has been completed since the initial discovery in May 1998. Assays as reported in the table below have not been cut. Estimation of reserve grade reported below includes cutting of two high-grade assays of over 100 grams per tonne to match the average grade of the surrounding values. //st Drill Hole Section From To Estimated Gold Silver # (metres)(metres)True Width Grade Grade (metres) (grams (grams per tonne) per tonne) Sections 11250E to 11450E 2404 11300E 84.04 86.38 2.2 3.79 5.66 2410 11300E 97.71 102.85 3.96 8.36 11.70 2413 11300E 119.19 126.27 4.18 13.60 7.49 2417 11350E 91.84 100.63 7.03 11.11 15.45 2420 11350E 112.21 118.72 3.91 35.01 19.48 2423 11350E 131.00 137.53 3.53 23.23 13.78 2436 11400E 106.54 116.93 6.34 21.11 9.27 2439 11400E 95.25 99.87 3.38 10.11 12.13 //et Resource and Reserve Estimate An initial polygonal estimate of diluted reserves for the western 200 metre segment of Talavera Sur between sections 11150E and 11350E indicates 315,000 tonnes averaging 12.8 grams per tonne gold reported at a 4.08 gram per tonne gold cut-off grade. Additional resources are indicated by drill information for the segment from 11350E to 11450E. Talavera Sur is open to the west and to depth and continued exploration is expected to increase the reserves. Previously reported metallurgical bottle roll tests completed at the Limon Mine laboratory indicate a 92% recovery after 32 hours of leaching with an average consumption of 0.16 kg/tonne of NaCN and 6.74 kg/ tonne of Cal on material ground to 85% passing 200 mesh. The Company's routine and ongoing check assay and quality control program provides confirmation of the mine laboratory assay results reported above. ACME Analytical Laboratories Ltd. of Vancouver, an external and independent Canadian laboratory, is used by Black Hawk for check assaying. Core recovery of mineralized intersections is generally very good. Mine Development in Progress Underground development is in progress to provide access from the Talavera Mine operation. The Talavera Sur Vein was intersected on February 26 at the 190 mine level. Development access to the 160 and 210 levels is in progress and will provide for stope development with production scheduled for late 1999. Existing mine infrastructure will allow relatively inexpensive development and mining of Talavera Sur. Veta Nueva In-Fill Drill Results An in-fill drilling campaign using two surface core rigs has been in progress on Veta Nueva since the fourth quarter of 1998 with the objective of providing closely spaced geological data for updating the resource estimate. Veta Nueva is an east-west striking vein system dipping north 60 to 65 degrees that is situated approximately 1.0 kilometre east of the Talavera Mine operation. Mixed drill results were obtained for the western portion of the vein indicating an erratic gold distribution. The eastern half of the Veta Nueva appears to be cut by a series of northeast-southwest faults that segment the vein. Gold values also appear to be lower in the eastern half of the vein. The following table summarizes the drill results obtained during the in-fill drilling on Veta Nueva. //st Drill Hole Section From To Estimated Gold Silver # (metres)(metres) True Width Grade Grade (metres) (grams (grams per per tonne) tonne) 2394 12465E 97.53 99.00 1.21 5.29 d.l. 2395 12440E 78.12 80.52 1.61 2.13 d.l. 2396 12440E 58.21 60.12 1.70 12.71 5.74 2397 12510E 175.4 177.88 2.26 124.89 11.35 2399 12510E 216.02 222.65 4.51 9.30 52.44 2400 12570E 121.14 121.80 0.36 11.86 62.83 2402 12510E 120.70 125.64 4.15 9.70 4.03 2403 12570E 86.86 91.86 4.20 1.67 1.28 2405 12490E 71.38 72.70 1.00 1.52 0.52 2406 12540E 154.52 156.97 1.59 5.82 26.47 2407 12490E 47.54 49.50 1.71 2.62 d.l. 2409 12570E 215.18 223.11 5.71 2.34 10.46 2411 12570E 177.09 182.06 3.68 20.71 22.64 2412 12510E 55.47 61.26 4.98 6.92 1.76 2414 12570E 32.66 33.83 0.84 1.80 1.00 2415 12540E 93.42 96.00 2.19 3.03 0.54 2416 12540E 18.89 20.11 0.49 0.48 d.l. 2419 12667E 60.18 60.90 0.37 1.99 1.88 2421 12667E 36.88 41.90 4.22 15.38 2.25 2422 12705E 63.02 68.17 3.81 8.64 2.36 2425 12735E 6156 68.47 4.98 6.81 6.61 2427 12510E No veinFault Zone 2428 12640E 33.46 35.05 1.29 0.64 0.42 2429 12640E 123.00 127.05 3.81 0.32 0.34 2431 12670E 144.33 150.26 4.80 3.83 98.84 2432 12795E No veinFault Zone 2434 12607E No veinFault Zone 2435 12670E 197.94 200.76 1.52 0.92 0.13 2438 12670E 173.63 176.16 1.49 2.25 d.l. 2440 12735E 161.48 168.50 5.76 2.37 7.43 2441 12770E 150.97 156.82 5.44 2.56 10.44 d.l. = limit of detection //et These new drill results will be incorporated in a revised geological resource estimate for Veta Nueva. It is anticipated that the current resource estimate for Veta Nueva will be reduced as a result of the inconsistent distribution of gold in the vein structure. Continuing Exploration Additional work planned for Talavera Sur includes in-fill drilling between sections 11250E and 11450E, strike extension drilling west of section 11150E, and updating resource and reserve estimates. A program of depth extension drilling on Santa Emilia Oeste is scheduled to begin this quarter. Follow-up drilling of new vein intersections discovered in 1998 and testing of several new target areas will also be initiated during the next few months.
