Iomega stated that manufacturing from Asia proved more costly than originally projected and thus transferred much of the work. yet Orb is projected to assemble from there. makes you wonder.

<<Castlewood products are manufactured by Trans Capital in Malaysia, a strategic partner of Castlewood...and Tru-Tech also in Malaysia>> (from their site)

If you read Malai here's Trans Captial Bank's site. Trans Capital is funding the project through nearly all loans (a risky venture for Trans if the project doesn't go):

Tru-Tech is a subsidiary of Transtech out of Singapore. Transtech recorded sales of $293 million (projected) in 1998 for all divisions, including Tru-Tech. Tru-tech has 650,000 sq ft. manufacturing facility with 40 SMT lines (Surface Mt Technology). They manufacture turn-key projects like Orb's. Apparently they've had to assemble a complete new set of SMT lines to accommodate the MR plates for ORB - which would say, generally, the number of lines assembled specifically for the plates are probably two relative to expense (given total sales of parent company and possible bank willingness for credit - credit remains tight in Malayia). Supply, thus will be constrained for some time. If demand were to materialize it would take another firm, like Komag, about six months to reconfigure to assist them. Once the kinks are worked out of the initial manufacturing line (which takes time), Tru-tech could probably assemble each new line for demand in three to four months
