It's all sort of strange for an old open software advocate like me, might Microsoft allegedly threatened by really, truly free software. Use the source, Luke! The Microsoft story is just the one I previously noted from last Friday, there's a bunch of different Linux articles. On the issue of Microsoft and the Feds overplaying their hand, I think that all comes down to the remedies issue, which gets into the economic policy things I wouldn't want to comment on. I can never tell how serious Gerald is on the hardcore libertarian/ Hayek front. Me, I would just repeat my old line, if the "market" was all it was cracked up to be, Microsoft would ship an OS that sucked less. But Windows is what the consumers want! It's what the customer demands! Then, the only threat on the horizon is really free software like Linux, which fits into "free market" theory how? Beats me, postmodern economics and all that.
