Moving WDM Into the Enterprise

Wave division multiplexing, long the domain of carrier backbones and large
data centers using IBM's Enterprise System Connectivity (ESCON)
technology, is getting more useful for enterprise users, too. This week ADVA
Optical Networking will introduce the Fiber Service Platform, a line of optical
networking equipment that will let carriers offer Gigabit Ethernet, ATM and
FDDI LAN services between corporate sites
. The units also support ESCON
and Fibre Channel.

ADVA makes WDM equipment(OCM-16)that Inrange sells as the OM/9000.......An ADVA worldwide distribution partner for WDM and fiber optic products, INRANGE
Technologies markets the OCMs under the trademark OM/9000™. "This new technology means
that INRANGE Technologies' customers can now improve price/performance of their optical fiber
links up to 16-fold," Silberbauer added, "and at the same time have a graceful upgrade path from
the current product."

The Fiber Service Platform is
designed for City Carriers who want
to provide their enterprise customers
with data services.

Look at their applications link. Every single one is an Inrange project. Their line of WDM multiplexors and Erbium amplifiers
combined with Inrange's new FC interest. I think you get a SAN
that will shatter the 10k distance limits.......

some of their distances are a more than 10K. It may just be expensive? Any thoughts out there?
