I hope this guy doesn't mind me posting this here, but I love what he/she has to say!!!!! Blowing Smoke & Drifting Off Into the Sunset by: POS_Advisor (33/M/Earth) 344 of 344 The ICE is nothing more than smoke and mirrors. The 9600 bps modem is meaningless in today's world of integrated payment systems. With the payment terminal integrated into the register system, the transaction goes through a router along with all of the other store traffic (i.e., inventory, item sales, payroll, etc.), making the need for a modem in the payment terminal absolutely and utterly useless. Further to this, the screen on the ICE terminal is so so small that you would need a laboratory microscope to read any messages that supposedly show any marketing or advertising content. The ICE is a misguided product by a misguided company. It will go nowhere unless it is taken off of the market, improved substantially, and then re-introduced. For a real terminal that does what it's supposed to do, take a hard look at Penware or IVI/Checkmate. They are both kickass terminals, although the Penware is not as sturdy as it should be. It's a variation on the UPS delivery pad, while the IVI Checkmate device is a real terminal that will hold up through years of use and abuse in the real world. What's more is that IVI Checkmate is well-versed in the world of integrated solutions. This world is totally, utterly unfamiliar to Hypercom, where the days of shipping scads of dial-up terminals to banks and other processing institutions are over and done. Like a grand old ship that's past its prime, Hypercom will drift off into the sunset and sink, unless the company comes out with a terminal designed for integration into different register systems, and the ICE ain't it. In fact, the ICE is a Catherine Road disaster that will disappear into the sunset of Phoenix and quite possibly the exit by the company from the terminal business altogether.
