Calvin: <<Sell-off at Compaq Triggers Unfounded Concerns at Dell>>

I agree with the article. Thanks for posting it. This evening I am looking at a Merrill Lynch Global Update (released last Friday afternoon - 2/26/99). Here are Steve Milunovich's comments:

<<-We believe Compaq (Hold rating) is having two problems: 1) Medium and small business market and 2) Issues in Channel Managing Inventory.

-We spoke to DELL (Buy rating) and it is seeing strength in small and medium businesses -- its challenge is the high end corporate market and revenue growth.

-According to IBM (Buy rating), Y2K is not as big of an impact as much as Compaq is expecting.

-Hewlett Packard (Accumulate rating) ...is seeing a bit of weakness with the medium and small business segments.

-There is little weakness in unit demand in the industry with most impact in the medium and small business segment.

-In our view this is not an industry issue, Compaq may be having some company specific problems and we believe there may be some issues with Compaq going direct.>>
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We clearly have bet on "the right horse." Some of the ANALysts do actually realize DELL is undervalued and is a great buy now. They are also starting to realize that some of the competitors (like Compaq) have some SERIOUS problems. I'll bet on Michael and his team anyday. It will be interesting to see how "the experts from Wall Street" interpret Wednesday's announcements about DELL's new superstore online. IMHO, it will take many of them a little while to do their homework and really understand things.

DELL will continue to prove that it is the next DELL.!!!

Regards,

Scott
