As for the deadline issue, yes, I'm well aware of the morass of standards that litter the business domain. Don't know if you are aware of this or not, but I'm a programmer by trade (don't tell my family though; they think I'm a piano player in a brothel), but having a litany of standards doesn't really entice me to invent yet another.

Yes I am aware. I techinically an asic designer by trade but write tons of software.

Also, if a deadline is REALLY what's coming between choosing which standard to use vs. writing your own, there's something else horribly wrong in your process. (Which may or may not be in your sphere of control.)

you missed the point. the decision is to write something proprietary or potentialy wait another year or two for the standard to be decided. In these situations the decisions become hard. mamgners will seldom fault for making a decision and getting a product to market early that brings in $$$. remember revenue/earnings is the bottomline. nothing else matters.

Actually the took an old pseudo standard format "computrac" and the basterardized it so none can recognize it or use it without licensing their library. The problem here again is the terms of licensing. TC2000/AIQ/QP2 are much more open with their licensing...
