The OM1 is also my camera of choice - it is a classic that was introduced the same year I was born. Have had mine for 20 years now.

On the subject of flashcard write speeds. The nice thing about computers is that you can do controlled speed tests. Tests conducted by palmtop devotees that I know suggest that the newest Sandisk cards are probably the fastest on the market. 12 months ago cards from Lexar were faster but I am not sure that is still true. The Lexar cards also seem to be power hungry (tested by monitoring palmtop current draw during prolonged write cycles). The problem with validating these tests is that most end users report the label name rather than the card manufacturers name and the end users are dispersed globally and using slightly different measurement techniques.

The advertising on the Lexar site comparing with PCMCIA Type II cards neglects to mention which generation of type II card was used. This can make a big difference (especially if they choose the ancient 12V cards).
