Tad,
Thanks for posting.
RE:"If some of what I've seen comes to fruition within the next
several months (which I believe), third party offerings will allow
AMD to participate in the SMP server market with the K-7 at no
disadvantage in performance"....

Just what is it you have seen? Have you visited AMD and seen demonstrations other than at Comdex?

Jim

A.A.

Your comments are very eloquent.

It would warm my heart to stop reading all the misinformed Jerry bashing that appears on this thread. As a CPU designer, it is quite apparent that AMD's recent engineering execution has been nothing short of spectacular.

Very well said, and you have externalized most of what I'd contemplated internally before deciding to go long on AMD. There are great risks in attempting to overcome the monopoly lead of a successful, well-managed company such as Intel, but Intel's formerly dominant position has had its pyramid altered: it's not resting on a base now, but on an apex. In particular, I approve of your plaudits to AMD and Jerry Sanders and, by extension, to any company that is able to put millions of logic transistors and storage capacitors on a piece of ultra-refined silicon, and to get them reproducibly to work and power a computer. It's too easy for investors and traders to disparage the highly intelligent, hard-working, and ambitious scientific entrepreneurs who've managed to separate our country's economy from that of the rest of the world by American creativity and invention.

I've been there, and to use an old saying from a dearly-loved radio program called Fibber McGee and Molly, "It ain't easy, McGee!"

A. A., many thanks for your personal thoughts on AMD's progress. I heard a while back that some company is working on an 8-way bus interface chip to facilitate 8-way Alpha and K7 servers. Do you know the name of this company and whether and when it will be public?

re:Jerry Sanders is not a buffoon. How anyone who has been able to muster a credible
challenge to one of the greatest enterprises ever created gets dismissed so easily is
beyond me.

IMO, he is a buffoon. Ultimately, a CEO's performance should be measured by stockholder appreciation. AMD's stock performance over the past many years has been dismal in a bull market. A lot of that, imo, is due to Jerry's arrogant strategy of taking on Intel at all costs. A different strategy, and AMD's stock price would be much higher today. Also, I think it gets much worse for AMD here on out. I expect takeover rumours to abound by late in the year.

A.A. LaFountain III,

<As one of the few analysts with a Strong Buy, I'd like to contribute the following thoughts:...>

With all due respect, can you give us some more thoughts about the latest news from AMD. Followers of this thread and believers of this company may need a little inspiration.

Regards.
