I could also say that the mainframe would theoretically be able to handle that spike much better! Your point on installation is well taken, but IBM has made things much better over time with the parallel sysplex concept. If you are familiar with it you know that physical machines can be added to the 'sysplex' as needed. As for 'eventually', maybe, but that day is still 'off' somewhere in the future. Look at how Microsoft has delayed NT 5. Once they release it, add more years to get it really stable and the 'gotcha' bugs out. Also add more years for PC hardware to put S/390 channel subsystem and ESCON concepts into reality...
