With all the contracts airbus got in 1998 and to lose 200 million tells me they lowballed the bids to win the work and get their foot in the door. Better for Boeing to loose these contracts rather than tieing up factory floorspace with projects yielding little or no profit.

S'pore buys attack helicopters from
Boeing

SINGAPORE, March 2 (Reuters) - Singapore is buying eight
Apache attack helicopters from American defence contractor Boeing Co, the Straits Times
newspaper reported on Tuesday.

''After careful evaluation and consideration, the SAF (Singapore Armed Forces) has decided to
acquire the Boeing Apache attack helicopters as it meets our operational requirements,'' Singapore
defence minister Tony Tan was quoted as saying in the report.

No further details on the size of the contract were released but delivery of the helicopters was
expected to begin in three years' time, the newspaper said.

It added, however, that the the U.S. Department of Defence said last year eight Apaches were being
sold to Singapore as part of a US$620 million package.

According to the newspaper, Singapore had begun its search for helicopters at last year's Asian
Aerospace exhibition in the city state when Tan announced the SAF would purchase a small number
of attack helicopters through tenders.

Competition came from three candidates, the Franco-German Encopter Tiger, the South African
Rooivalk and the Apache, the report said.
