RESEARCH ALERT - Hewlett-Packard raised

NEW YORK, March 1 (Reuters) - J.P. Morgan said Monday it raised Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HWP - news) to a buy from a market perform rating.

-- set price target of $85 per share.

-- last quarter's earnings performance was $0.92, $0.10 ahead of J.P. Morgan's estimate.

-- said operating leverage has been the company's largest hidden asset. Its value will stand out once revenue growth begins to accelerate on the strength of improved economic conditions and better execution in Unix.

-- Shares were off 1-3/8 at 65-1/16 on Monday.
