Compaq <CPQ.N> trims estimates
CHICAGO, March 1 (Reuters) - ING Baring Furman Selz said
Monday it lowered its revenue and earnings estimates and
repeated a buy rating for top personal computer maker Compaq
Computer Corp. after indications of weakness in first quarter
sales.
-- ING Baring analyst Robert Cihra said he lowered his 1999
first quarter revenue estimate to $9.9 billion from $10.1
billion following indications that Compaq's January-February
sales were less than expected. He also trimmed his first
quarter earnings estimate to $0.35 a share from $0.41 and full
year 1999 estimate to $1.73 from $1.84.
-- In a report, he said he believes the weak start to the
first quarter was due to Intel's planned pricing actions in
February, as some PC buyers waited to buy the latest Pentium
III, while others held back waiting for price cuts on existing
parts. He expects a rebound in March.
-- Shares of Compaq were trading off 1-7/8 to 33-3/8.
