Linda,

Forget 30. Forget 40. If they reject this outright and don't negotiate a fair price then we will be looking at the 12's or lower again. I'll take 20.

Right now, at this point in time, and based on VLSI's past and current performance a price of 17 is an ok offer. 20 would be fair. Yes it might fetch more later. Someday. Oneday. But the cold hard fact unfortunately is that Stein and management allowed the company to fall to the $10 level and became very vulnerable to the buyout events we see now. Better management choices, better communication with the street, better marketing, better etc. and we would not have to worry about 17 cause we'd be trading above 20. But..........

Philips is making a smart purchase. I think they will match a reasonable counter offer. But barring any Board of Director shinanigans, poison pill implementations, and other VLSI management foolishness, Philips will get this deal done. One way or another. I will gladly tender my shares to them if they wish to go hostile, and the VLSI BOD doesn't screw the shareholders with the poison pill defense.

Fetching $ 40 for VLSI is impossible at this juncture. $ 20 is more realistic. VLSI crossed $ 16 1/2 today and is approaching the ask of $ 17. There seems to be some block buying. Market has figured it is worth more than $ 17. Hopefully Al is not stupid and won't be dastard and sell out at $ 17.
