MicroNet Ships Genesis System; High- Capacity RAID System Ships to Energes in Chicago

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 1999--MicroNet Technology, Inc., an innovator in storage solutions, today announced that its high-capacity Genesis RAID system is now shipping. The first system shipped to Energes, a Chicago-based VAR that specializes in pre-press installation. Energes intends to install the Genesis system at one of the world's largest advertising agencies. Ideal for the pre-press environment, the Genesis system is a platform-independent, Fibre Channel-ready RAID 0/1/3/5/0+1 system that is sophisticated, powerful, and easy to install. The Genesis system is fully factory pre-configured to meet the specific requirements of each user, with unique features that include redundant RAID controllers for added security, a Web-based GUI for easier system management and a wide variety of available configurations to suit every need.

A popular Genesis configuration integrates ATTO Technology's dual FibreBridge, allowing users to leverage their current investment in legacy SCSI drive mechanisms while achieving high-speed Fibre-Channel connectivity. The easy, four-step installation process, which is as simple as plugging in the power cord, phone line, ethernet and SCSI or Fibre connections, will have any user up and running in minutes. The Genesis system also features a free on-site service and warranty program as well as installation. Fully configured systems are available now from qualified resellers at prices ranging from $15,995 to $161,995 SRP.

Ideal for digital content creators, the Genesis system is based on MicroNet's patented and award-winning DataDock technology. The system features dual-redundant, hot-swappable RAID controllers with active-active or active-passive auto failover capability, mirrored cache, and battery backup to constantly protect a studio's data and image files. At the center of the Genesis system is the microprocessor- based ECU (Enhanced Control Unit), which monitors the unit environment including room temperature, system temperature, voltages, fans and power supplies to ensure that they are within specifically defined parameters. The ECU features a built-in ethernet connection, enabling greater control of management options, both local and remote.

The Genesis system is kept at a safe and operable temperature with up to fourteen triple-redundant fans. With MicroNet's proprietary drive module locking function, any failed drive will spin down automatically and unlatch, making it the only drive that can be removed. If a drive or other component should fail, audible and visual alarms will direct the user to the troubled module. Concurrently, a built-in alphanumeric paging system or an e-mail will notify the Genesis user of any failure.

The SRP of the Genesis system with dual RAID controllers and up to twenty-eight 18GB drive modules for a capacity of over 500GB starts at $108,845. A Genesis system with twenty-eight 36GB drive modules and up to one terabyte of storage with two Fibre-Channel host connections is available for $161,995 SRP. A Genesis system can also be configured with fourteen 36GB drive modules with a capacity up to 500GB for $81,435 SRP and as a 63GB to 250GB desktop tower configuration with seven 9GB to 36GB drive modules starting at $15,995 SRP. The seven-bay module is ideal for use in small to medium sized companies and as a RAID solution to complement Apple's new servers.
