John,

from the MUEI earnings warning,

<Micron Electronics said many of its customers are deferring PC purchases
in anticipation of Intel Corp. (Nasdaq:INTC - news)'s new Pentium III
processor. It also said a seasonal slowdown in government purchases and
pricing pressure added to weak sales figures.>

I was disappointed they didn't use my favorite tech industry excuse for missing their numbers, "we had several large deals that slipped out of the quarter at the last minute". Oh well, they have that one in reserve for next quarter. <g>

btw, with their earnings report Monday March 22, the same day as Dataquest's final numbers on PC sales for 1998, the day should shape up to be an interesting day for us PC market data junkies.
