El: Just saw the ML Lou Dobbs thing. The first piece was a survey of today's action. They mention Micron Technology warning after the bell "like COMPAQ did on Friday". So they now have CPQ warning! The Micron guy said it was switching over to new equipment. A ML guy Leeks (or Meeks) said the PC problems was all caused by the Pentium III delay - like waitng for a new model car and it was an overreaction: another guy said that it was alway hard to judge tech first quarter because most of the sales took place in March. So not much damage there and a general consensus that the tech correction was an overreaction.

Then they had a studio discussion with a MM called Eisner - a bit of a geek. Then the same ML guy - Leeks. Eisner made a few musical grunts and basically said it all comes down to value - but he would not be buyng in the tech sector yet. The ML guy said the problem was that PC's had had two good quarters people had begun to believe that this year the normal trend whereby the first quarter does not show a sequential gain over the 4th quarter would be reversed. Now they were hearing that the normal decrease would occur. It was a question of expectations. He was very bullish, said he felt better about 1999 than he did about 1998. The worry was seasonal. However, when asked whether he would buy PC's he said no - because there was worry in the market about sales and even though they would be ok he thought mid-April would be the time to buy and the year, as a whole would be good. He was and is buying AOl EMC and must other tech.

I got the impression that he was talking about DELL IBM and the others that did better than COMPAQ. Both were talking value - CPQ has the best value, lowest p/e.

I think Lou Dobbs should interview you and me. I could be beamed over by satellite. You could bring Harvey.

El, I thought buying some this week in the low 30s and then some more if it falls to 30 or below later. Also leaving room for some to be put to me by way of the put options I sold. Somehow I don't think I will be that lucky.
