It is obvious that VLSI will not be sold for 17. Philips has a larger number in mind, 17 is the number they started with knowing the final number will be between 17 and VLSI's first counter offer. I would guess 25.

Jim, re

I also know there is no chance of the board accepting anything without a 2 as the first digit. I think Philips knows this.

At this point, I am not really sure how much it's up to the Board. I dislike this Board as much as I dislike Stein. The shareholders are going to vote their shares, and there may be enough institutions/arbs holding at this point that if no other bid surfaces, 17 will be it.

I am so pissed at the sh*tty management that I sold another 25% at the open Friday at 16 3/16. (Unfortunately, I had to sell the first 25% at the low in Oct due to a margin call.) I don't trust Stein to do anything for the shareholders. I think he would be happy continuing to rape the shareholders and keep his little fiefdom. At least at this point maybe we'll be lucky to get a bidding war. Stein has to be the worst manager in whose company I've owned stock.

Sorry for ranting. Can you tell how I feel about the guy?
