iMac fans see red; Best Buy responds

Loyalists say retailer sells colorful computer short

Mark Reilly   Staff Reporter

Best Buy Co. Inc. began selling Apple Computer's popular iMac computer in November, after nearly a nine-month separation between the two companies. Many Apple enthusiasts haven't stopped complaining since.

The Eden Prairie-based retailer has been the target of scads of nasty comments from Apple's notoriously zealous loyalists, who have complained that the Mac is being insulted by Best Buy sales people and ignored by management. Best Buy has also been slower than competitors to sell new models of the iMac, fueling charges that the company isn't committed to selling Apple machines...

And, in fact, Bauer said that Best Buy has instituted a new round of educational classes -- sort of a Macintosh sensitivity course -- for its sales employees.
