It is no coincidence that the deterioration in literacy has accompanied the virtual disappearance of the teaching of sentence diagramming. Once you have had diagramming drilled into you, as I also did, it is quite difficult to write a gramatically incorrect sentence.

My young began reading when they were three, too, but they were very close to four.

With respect to (please don't feel embarrassed to correct me) the repeated exposure to the same academic information, don't feel bad, it could have gone the other way, so that you were never exposed to it.
