JD,

A drop in implied volatility indicates that a smaller premium is being paid to acquire an option.

Another datum item is the fact that PUT volume had substantially increased.

The market no longer expects as much downside as it was expecting when Implied Volatility was higher.

That doesn't mean that AMAT will go up or down; it just means that it'll cheaper to buy options as long as the Implied Volatility keeps going down.

Ian.

Option Pricing

The brief answer to your question is that volatility is neither bullish or bearish. Volatility rises when prices rise and when prices fall especially when they do so in a fast manner. Volatility is the annual standard deviation of the underlying asset's price when it comes to options.

Fujitsu postpones construction of logic fab

TOKYO — Fujitsu Ltd. is postponing construction of a front-end logic fabrication facility in Aizu-Wakamatsu. Instead, the Japanese chip maker will build at the site a back-end assembly and testing plant, which will open in late 2000.

Fujitsu said the decline of the global semiconductor market forced it to shelve the front-end fab. The company said it will continue to produce system LSI devices at its other fabs. The chips will be assembled and tested at the new Aizu-Wakamatsu plant.
