Western Union shareholders were all certain that their stock would always go up- until the telephone came along and knocked them down to size.

I seem to remember that Western Union had the opportunity to buy the rights to the Telephone, but opted out. Thus, their own business mistake prevented their participating in the one of the greatest technological booms in history.

No, it is not different this time- It just seems that way from your perspective here in 1999.

Hmmm... we have to remember that in 1929, the Fed was under the restraint imposed by the gold standard and did not resort to adding liquidity through interest rate cuts until it was too late to counteract the damage already done.

The market is rigged. Bill Fleckenstein has stated this quite convincingly after the Fed lower rates last Oct-Nov.

Those than understand this can make some money in between.
