Thanks,

I was at the conference, but missed the cable modem reference. Of course BRCM is very surprised at the growth rate of Cable Modems. They are upping their forecast of modems shipped. (Com21 uses BRCM chips.)

My networking hardware vendor contacts are surprised at the growth in the infrastructure buying, to create more "homes passed."

Cheers,
Rex

FWIW my local cable modem provider (and yes, there is only one) is putting in fibre optic cable and replacing their Zenith's w/ Surfboard modems from General Instrument. The consumer has no choice at all in the matter. It is a superior system w/ every user getting a dedicated slice of bandwidth but the bugs are still many & reliability is spotty at best. rod
