I just got my January statement, with the "Online Investing Facts".

It's well written, and is useful to novices in that it gives a heads up on what is reasonable to expect given the realities of how the market operates.

The only part I didn't like was "Access to Your Account" - it's one thing to warn people of bottlenecks due to internet traffic (i.e. not Datek related). It's quite another to make a blanket statement, which seems to imply that they don't feel responsible for, to quote: "systems capacity." Why not just say straight out - hey, if it gets busy, we may lay an egg, and we're not responsible.

I wish they didn't feel the need to make such CYA statements, makes me feel as if they are leaving themselves an out instead of being 100% committed to increasing "systems capacity" to match the number of clients they themselves signed up.

I'm hoping it's just their lawyers who made them do it, and that they are working full tilt on bettering the system. I remain an optimist.

This is going to sound crazy (and I'm sure I'll regret making this statement soon enough), but I think that Datek is getting better and better this year. Therefore, I'll cut them some slack when it comes to checking and options (ouch, I'd like to have options, and checks wouldn't hurt). Main thing: SPEED, Datek, please keep improving.
