Eli.. your explanation sounds reasonable.

To all the SGI lurkers.

IF
Sgi= cobalt
and
IntLin = Linux + Xi_openGL + dirt cheap PC.

What objective video benchmarks show that
Sgi > IntLin. As IntLin is <<<< cost of SGI.

And in the eyes of this beholder, in ugly SGI box >>>>>>> Intlin $30 box.

Flat Panel is bery bery sexy however. And two sit nicely on 1x6 presure treated decking on top of my $30 IntLin box.

The algebra of sales expectations.

Tom Watson tosiwme.

Eli,

>> The 320 machine starting shipping Feb 4, i.e. 3 weeks *BEFORE* PIII came out.

I was unaware they had started shipping. I had heard others complain
that their machines still had not arrived although SGI claims
they are shipping. I wonder now why the SGI engineer said they
were waiting to ship until the III came out ? Maybe he was only
talking about the 540 only with the Xeons.

Thanks for the info.
