Well, yes. That, and the fact that some 85% of Americans consider themselves "Christians".

But of course it is true that Christians have drawn much animosity since the very beginning, in Jerusalem.

As you probably know, it was so dangerous to be identified as a Christian (before they were even called that) in the very early days in Jerusalem and surrounding towns, that the fish sign was drawn in the dust of the ground with a stick. It was a sort of password. If you knew what it meant, then you were a friend. If the other didn't catch/comprehend your scribbles in the dust, then any conversation after that was guaranteed to be very ordinary.
