They're using slower memory (for the 125 speed), so it will be a little cheaper. 3dfx has stated that they will be making an OEM version of the V3. STB often has offered cut down versions of their cards to OEM's to shave the last few $'s from their price, so they'll be competitive at that level. The V3 should outperform the S4 and s3 has a pretty poor name with gamers right now (and it will be coming out 1 month after V3). For a month or two the V3 retail launch looks ok.

Like Pat said, the next chipset will be key. The good news is that S3 has proven that they have as many or more problems as 3dfx in getting products out the door in time and 3dfx has been working on their new product for quite a while.

OT - PSX2

okay, I know I'm probably beating this console related news bit to death, but since this stock is dead money until some major OEM announcements ( or, keeping with recent stock behavior, a stock market meltdown), I'll keep on posting ( also because a large portion of the people reading this board are fanatic gamers as well =) ). Plus it keeps things into perspective if TDFX is even thinking about entering the console arena ( which i give a < 1% chance, contrary to some beliefs on this board ).

I'm generally not a religious guy, but what I saw was nothing short of a gift from god. Completely unbelievable. UTTERLY UNBELIEVABLE. I'm still trembling from the shock. Especially the 3rd MPEG with the ballroom dance scene.... unbelievable. All of it was rendered REALTIME. Motion blurring, curved surface, the whole shebang... All from a console that, from all indications, will sell for <$300.

If Rampage comes anything close to the quality/capability of PSX2 I might as well become a monk =)
