victor: morning. The Journal story clearly supports your scenario one. CPQ did NOT believe this was particularly material information, as the story says. M2

Morning victor,
Management needs to start thinking Wall Street and stop
thinking what they think. CPQ will continue to prosper
but until they learn to let it out a la Michael Dell,
it will be a long trek for the stock price. MD was on
our local radio station yesterday and was very impressive.
You could tell he had goals, strong confidence and of
course hasn't been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

victor,

Thank you, that is exactly what I've been trying to say/post now for 2 days except that yours is succinct and clearly enumerated ... mine was a bit discombobulated and logarhithmic !

CPQ Mgmnt WILL clarify issue once the dustiness has settled ... reading the various analysts panics it looks like one ass just follows the other, misinformation/misunderstandings are just repeated .. especially when it comes to CPQ.

Listening to HWP's spin-off plans one can see that they will be doing more internet/DIRECT selling ... so the VARs may start coming back to CPQ ...

Michael

Victor - Sorry if I'm a bit cynical, but this is getting TOO typical of CPQ. Last year the fund managers sell for thirteen days straight before the little guy gets the word on channel stuffing. This year, CPQ does not THINK that this comment is material???? If you believe that then I'd like to hear your comments on the quality of CPQ's IR staff....

"A Compaq spokesman said the company's chief financial
officer commented on computer demand during the tour with
investors only in response to a question from an investor about
weakness in demand during the quarter. "We were agreeing
with a comment made by an investor," a spokesman said. "At
the time of the conversation, we did not believe that this was
material [information]"
