DB: "...I don't know what to make of all this fuss over PC sales. I just hope it doesn't hold MXTR down for long."

Obviously my bet is that it is, as they say, overdone. More than that, I think it has presented a great opportunity to buy a dominant company at a bargain price. This is a situation somewhat akin to INTC last year. But it may even prove better -- tho it's a long shot. CPQ has a wooden PR operation and the company faces a huge challenge in merging with DEC -- depressing the CPQ share price more than the prices of other so-called boxmakers (altho CPQ is no longer a "boxmaker" per se). That on top of this hoo-ha about slowing PC sales.
My bet is: pc sales may have dipped because of normal seasonal factors and the wait for Pentium III; CPQ will meet or exceed earnings this quarter; server sales will climb. A bit longer term: the merger will be accomplished; Alta Vista spinoff will provide a goose to share price. Target: $60 in one year, easily, which will still leave CPQ cheap. Downside risk from here is high 20s. M2
