We know that but with the recent events I'll take anything
positive. He could have said exactly what you said and we know
how CPQ reacts to those type of comments.

Hope we bounce a little today.

Regards
hio

Compaq Presario Internet PC is America's Favorite Brand at Retail

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 2, 1999--Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ - news)
today announced that Presario Internet PCs led the U.S. home computer retail market in 1998 with a
30.4 percent share, according to just released sales-out figures from Intelect ASW(1), a leading
third-party provider of retail point-of-sale tracking information.

Intelect ASW sales-out data also showed that for December 1998 Compaq captured an overall 34
percent share of the retail market, a 34 percent share for consumer desktop computers and a 36
percent share for consumer notebooks. These numbers exclude sales through more than 5,000
RadioShack locations, where Compaq is the only PC brand offered. Through December 1998, Compaq
Presario Internet PCs have held the top position at retail in 17 of the last 18 months.

''The latest data shows that one out of every three PCs sold at retail is a Compaq, once again proving
that Presario is America's favorite consumer PC brand,'' said Mike Larson, Group General Manager and
Vice President, Consumer Products Group at Compaq. ''Whether consumers are buying off the shelf, or
through our 'Built for You' retail kiosk program -- which lets customers configure products to order --
Compaq offers award-winning Presario Internet PCs, printers and monitors.''

Recently promoted to Vice President and Group General Manager of Consumer Products Group at
Compaq, Larson also outlined his goals for the Compaq Consumer Products Group. ''While we are
proud of our accomplishments, we are not resting on our laurels. We will continue to build on our
success and strive to stay ahead of the technology curve by delivering innovative, easy-to-use and
value-rich home computing solutions.'' Here are some of the key priorities for the Compaq Consumer
Products Group for the rest of 1999:

-0-

-- Build on its first-to-market position in home connectivity by
expanding Compaq's recently announced Phoneline Home Networking
capabilities across the product line. With Phoneline Home
Networking, consumers can easily connect PCs within the home over
existing phone lines and share Internet access, files, and
printers and conduct head-to-head gaming.

-- Focus on customer satisfaction by offering high-quality products
with the best combination of performance and value, and continue
to lead the industry by delivering the best Internet computing
solutions and offer the right set of features, technologies and
services.

-- Enhance the entire Internet experience by making Web setup,
installation, access and surfing as easy as possible. Continue
delivering innovations such as the Easy Access Internet Keyboard
and help users take advantage of high-speed Internet access by
offering products that are analog, DSL, cable-modem and satellite
ready.

-- Continue to offer customers choice in how and where they buy
products -- give consumers access to products anywhere, any way
they choose -- through on-the-shelf retail availability, Compaq
"Built for You" retail kiosks, the Web or through a direct 800
number.

-- Deliver superior service and support with Extra Mile Service -
take advantage of new technologies such as remote diagnostics and
"push" solutions to deliver new standards for service and
support.

''As we move into 1999 and toward the new millenium, I am very excited about what the future holds for
the computer industry and our customers,'' added Larson. ''Last year we sold a record number of home
PCs and we plan to continue that momentum this year by offering the best home computing solutions in
the industry.''

I just called IR and talked to a woman who had just arrived at work. She said that she hadn't seen the WSJ and didn't know anything as yet today. She tried to transfer me to a supervisor named Ms. McGuire, but, of course, she was on another call. If anyone else cares to call, please suggest to Ms. McGuire that EP and Em take a few dollars out of petty cash and enroll in a Dale Carnegie class. CPQ IR 1-800-4332391. I forgot to ask if CPQ is having a shareholders meeting on 4/22, so if anyone calls, that would be a good question to ask. El
