Hewlett Packard eyes one mln units in 2000
SINGAPORE, March 2 (Reuters) - U.S. computer giant Hewlett Packard Co aims to produce one million personal computer (PC) units in 2000, and booming Asian markets will contribute to the target, a senior company official said on Tuesday.

HP is positioning itself as the world's number two computer maker, with 600,000 units a year by the end of 1999 and one million by the year 2000, Sanjay Jindal, Asia Pacific regional category manager for desktop/mobile computing products in the personal systems group, told reporters.

''In China, we are doing excellent. Our business is growing there and we are becoming the number one as multinational company for desktops,'' he said.

''India is also growing very fast, doubling sales every year. Southeast Asia is showing really good signs of recovery,'' he said.

Jindal was speaking at the launch of a new line of PCs under the Brio and Vectra brands in Singapore, aimed at corporate and business customers.

Brio PCs enable users to access a customised start page that features news, business tips, stock reports and special content from HP.

Vectra PCs are engineered to enable high information technology efficiency and lower PC operating costs with stability and security features.
