Dick, I too have been puzzled by this; however, I stay puzzled, so that's nothing new<g>.

Given that, what I am beginning to discern from all of this talk is this: GS "jawboned" markets into thinking about rates going up, so that he can recover that last 1/4 move he had taken as insurance (and, at the same time, get some air out of the market bubble). But, due to world markets, he can't/won't raise Fed rates, short term, as much as he would like to.

Maybe this is the read that investors of financials are getting.

My worry, though, is this: does P&F djbb read a definite rate increase, or market sentiment of rate increase?

Or, am I really showing my lack of understanding in all of this?<VBG>
