initially I think the housing mkt will benefit, those with gains will cash out and buy hard assets...In the medium/longer term, they will be hurt, but I'd rather lose 20 % on an income property than more on a non dividend paying stock...

regarding newmont, I prefer abx and you can do the calls thing on it as well...there are leaps for 2000 and 01
