Excellent post Yaacov

They do it like clockwork. Before they buy however they like to induce a panic in the small investor. Like something BAAD is about to happen. These downgrades are such fun because on the upside you have the whole pack of "poorly informed investors" yelling INTC 200!!! With a cheering section like this, a lynch mob out to carve up poor Kurlak then you can always run the stock up too high, take your profits, and knock it down.

You heard about how the CPQ downgrade happened? According to WSJ an analyst loved by CPQ was taking his group of investors around the CPQ plant on tour when one of them asked a question about how the company would do this quarter. The CPQ person leaked the news. The analyst then made sure his traders knew and they their friends etc. etc. Then somebody decided to downgrade officially after they got out. A number of analysts (not favored by CPQ) were left holding the bag.

This is a shake-out period. Hope the suckers will sell at the low price. Use bonds as a bludgeon with Fed worries.

The reason is all so simple. You can't possibly make big money buying at the top. Corrections have to be induced with "drugs" when they don't give birth naturally.
