Patent Pending for BitWise Designs Image
Authentication Technology Sub-system can Verify Document Authenticity
with Virtual Certainty

SCHENECTADY, N.Y., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- BitWise Designs, Inc., (Nasdaq:
BTWS - news) a leading developer of
electronic imaging systems, today announced that it has filed an application with the U.S.
Patent and Trademark Office and
received patent-pending status for innovative technology that can verify the authenticity of
digital images with virtual certainty.

This new technology will be commercialized as Authentidate(TM) Image Marking, a
recently unveiled sub-system in the
company's line of DocSTAR(TM) electronic filing products. The turnkey DocSTAR
Systems scan and store paper information on
optical disks, retrieve documents easily and print them as needed.

''More and more documents are 'going digital,' but people have serious concerns about
authenticity,'' explains Ira Whitman, senior
vice president at BitWise Designs. ''Making digital images tamper-proof creates a
technical challenge, which our solution
addresses with a combination of hardware and software.

''We believe it will give people piece of mind in storing documents digitally, thereby
accelerating acceptance of electronic filing in
the workplace of the new millennium.''

Secure Clock, Mathematical Signature

The Authentidate Image Marking Technology employs a secure clock, which cannot be
changed by end users or even trained
service technicians, to stamp the date and time into each image captured and filed by the
imaging system. It also produces a
mathematical signature of each image to provide ironclad documentation of its original
content. This combination virtually
eliminates any possibility of alteration without detection, delivering a higher level of
protection than even the most secure storage
methods currently used, such as WORM media.

BitWise Designs developed this technology for date- and time-sensitive applications, such
as legal and medical records, where
information authenticity must be verified with certainty.

BitWise Designs, Inc., a $22 million company based in Schenectady, N.Y., manufactures
and distributes computer-based products.
Inc. Magazine recognized it for two years as one of the nation's fastest growing
companies. Publicly traded since 1992, BitWise is
listed on the Nasdaq Exchange (Small Cap Issues, Symbol - BTWS).
