H-P's CEO to step down after restructuring

PALO ALTO, Calif., March 2 (Reuters) - Hewlett-Packard Co. Chief Executive Lewis Platt will step down once its split into two companies is complete and a CEO to head its computer business is found, said an H-P spokesman.

Platt, who turns 60 in two years, will manage the restructuring until complete and until a search turns up a CEO to run H-P's computer business, the world's third largest. H-P has a mandatory retirement age of 60 for its CEO, the spokesman said.

Dell Direct Sales Model Plunging into China

CHINA, March 02, AsiaPort -- Since Dell pushed forward the direct
sales model in China in August 1998, both the monthly and seasonal
sales output of Dell Computer (China) Co Ltd have remained the
increasing tendency therefore, Dell asserted to expand the direct order
model to such new cities as Chengdu, Wuhan Xi'an and Chongqing besides
the former 9 cities already having the service. Dell's Customer Service
Center in China was put into operation in Xiamen in November 1998.
Since then, only need Chinese users dial the free 800 hotline of Dell,
they can get their computer products which fit them well. Experts
believe that the direct sale model has re-defined the relationship
between the computer manufacturers and the terminal users.
