It's more than that. When used to properly describe a company - it makes sense.

This is not a "ploy." This is a legitimate use of the .com. A ploy implies, as you say, they are just grabbing at coattails. Using .com is not a ploy if the shoe fits. And it does fit TSIG nicely.
