CommVault Systems Announces Strategic Alliance With Network Appliance Business Wire - March 02, 1999 10:13 OCEANPORT, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 2, 1999-- New Alliance Aimed at Seamlessly Integrating CommVault and Network Appliance Solutions to Provide Corporate Customers with Greater Data Availability Committed to providing end users with superior data protection and recovery solutions, CommVault Systems, Inc. today announced a strategic alliance with Network Appliance (NASDAQ:NTAP), the leading provider of dedicated data access appliances. CommVault has seamlessly integrated its innovative storage management capabilities with Network Appliance's dedicated file server appliances, known as "filers." The combined solution will provide customers in high-growth enterprise environments the ease and management of accessing and browsing earlier versions of a file, as well as directly replacing or restoring a deleted file from off-line backup media. "The CommVault solution extends data protection and management options to customers that need flexibility to protect and manage their corporate data assets," said Charlie Simmons, vice president of marketing, Network Appliance. "Our customers already receive the true benefits of a centralized and automated storage management solution that significantly improves access to historical files and backed up data for Network Appliance(TM) filers, this agreement is a direct result." CommVault's storage management solution expands the availability of data on the Network Appliance (NetApp(R)) filer by merging the on-line and off-line information into a single file system-based resource. By centrally managing this data, CommVault allows end-users to directly recover files and information that has been lost or deleted. Both UNIX(R) permissions and Windows NT(R) access control list's (ACL's) are automatically checked to verify authorization to access data. The CommVault data management application supports and extends the capabilities of the Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP). Integration of NDMP as the open standard for storage area networks (SANs) and network-attached storage (NAS) simplifies network data management by centralizing back-up control, reducing traffic and enhancing back-up performance. For CommVault and Network Appliance customers, NDMP will ensure interoperability between different file servers and backup solutions, thus simplifying the data management process. "Cooperative efforts such as this one with Network Appliance demonstrate CommVault's leadership in a maturing NAS marketplace," said Larry Cormier, CommVault's vice president, marketing and business development. "This alliance provides a reliable storage management solution that yields unparalleled backup and recovery granularity for users of the NetApp filers." Availability CommVault for Network Appliance is generally available today for CommVault release 2.7.1 or higher, covering Network Appliance filers running Data ONTAP(TM) 5.1.2 through 5.2.1.
