Tabler,
There has never been a question as to any of the jets being Y2K compliant. The older generation of Jets are not computer dependent. The latest generation of Jet are completely self contained. All of the software was/has been written by Airbus Industries or Boeing. Its not like you buy an aircraft that comes with a MSFT operating system. I understand why the public would think that aircraft would not be Y2K compliant, but I assure you they are. Sorry.

The biggest worry from the airline industry is that of their mainframe computers, much like any industry that relys upon a centralized computer system.

I do not think the jets are the problem. Next paragraph from Bloomberg on Boeing's 10-K's and testimony before Sen. Bennett's committee(11/98):

"Boeing maintains the millennium bug poses no risk to the safety of flight. Very few systems on commercial airplanes need date functions. A team of engineers working on the bug since 1993 has found only a few potential nuisances, such as malfunctioning clocks in the cockpit."

If ATAC goes totally down, running the system "by-hand" may reduce allowable commercial traffic 40% - 60%. How long is anyone's guess. Also, the actual degree to which ATAC may fail is unknown. Likelihood of safety threat from this is very low.

The Y2K topic has the potential to fan much fear and hysteria. There also will be tons of shortside opportunity. I'd refer to A@P's constant admonition: work carefully to find the facts. We can all use each others' help separating the wheat from the chaff here.
