"You sound as if you are taking the COMS siutation personally."

A great many of the postings sound as though people are taking this personally. This is a stock, dammit! Let's all get a grip!

This kind of thing happens all the time, most notably in technology stocks, which can be characterized by surprises. When the surprises are positive, everybody seems to get happy and self-congratulatory. When the surprises are negative, there is wailing and gnashing of teeth. Many of these companies have very back-end-loaded quarters, hence the surprises. This is in the nature of the business.

A quick aside for an illustrative joke:

Silicon Valley CFO on the last day of the quarter calls down to the loading dock at noon to see how the quarter is shaping up. The response from the foreman on the loading dock: "How should I know? The quarter's only half over."

If you keep this little story in mind, you may bring some perspective to these quarterly surprises.
